spending a deep freeze on a highway

SPENDING A DEEP FREEZE ON A HIGHWAY

when i saw this picture above and read the news reports
i wondered what it would be like to be stuck on the highway like that for hours
all i could think was sitting in my car with the engine running with the heater running to stay warm
watching the gas gauge closely so i wouldnt run out of gas but yet not freeze to death
i thought about food and water and rest room needs
i bet that long strip of highway got some major contamination from human waste

now in my car when the tank says empty you really have an extra gallon or two left
since we moved to santa barbara i only get gas every month or so since i dont usually drive that far when i go places
if we my wife she and i go somewhere together we go in her car

recently as i started wearing only n95 masks i rotate them each day
i also have a set for the garden and a set for elsewhere
i tend to throw the mask on to the dash that so happens to be where the gas gauge is located 
the mask covers it up so i have to move the mask to see the level of gas in the car

out of sight out of mind
or 
should i say 
out of gas

when leaving the garden as i was going up a hill the car sputtered then died
i was on a hill so i coasted backwards onto the side of the road
catching the curb on a driveway totally blocking the driveway

thank goodness for triple a
eventually they delivered gas to get me going again
that was the first time i have ran out of gas since i was 18
it will be the last

i must say my wife she who was out of town enjoyed the fact that i ran out of gas since i am always harassing her about having low gas in her tank

as i was standing by my car waiting for triple a i thought of what it would be like to be caught in that deep freeze storm on that highway with low gas
i would probably have frozen to death

now here in santa barbara you wont ever freeze to death

then i thought about how an electric car would do in the situation like being stuck in a deep freeze on the highway

actually like someone with a low amount of gas the electric car if it had a low charge to begin with would not fare well

it seems that electric cars did fare well if they were charged enough like those gas car owners who had enough gas
in the electric car you can set your heater temperature so that you dont drain as much energy from the batteries
eg setting it on 60 degrees rather than 70 degrees
while a gas car that didnt make a difference as you used the same amount of gas no matter what the temp setting

in this article comparing electric vs gas powered vehicles the tesla studied could last 45+ hours
both type of vehicles had plenty of electricity or gas after 24 hours

in cold temps the battery doesnt work as well but it works good enough

in electric cars you dont have to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning

so
if i could chose 
an electric car or a gas car in the deep freeze stuck on the highway situation
i would chose the electric car since i would worry about getting carbon monoxide poisoning from the gas car
