because of this diagnosis i have opted to stop practicing medicine
this blog will be about my journey with this disease

ALZHEIMERS NEWS-TAKING STEPS TO END ALZHEIMERS

on my iphone there is a health app that i use to tell how many steps i take each day
my goal each day is to hit at least 5000 steps which i usually do


here is a photo of my steps from my workday in the garden last tuesday
it not uncommon for me to reach that level
most of that activity is walking around and doing gardening stuff
we have to park in our garage which is across a courtyard
i always park when i go somewhere so i have to walk farther than most folks
eg
i park at the back of the parking lot at the grocery store 
i walk to my medical appointments
sometimes i walk to the grocery store
i walk to the pharmacy
so
usually without doing extra effort i can reach a good level of activity each day
i do my exercise by incorporating it into my daily routine

well it seems i need to do a little more each day according to this article
alzheimers disease taking 8900 steps per day could stave off  brain decline

the researchers had study subjects wear step monitors 
the study subjects all had positive amyloid in the brain
not only did cognitive decline slow down but also the amount of brain shrinkage decreased in these walking patients
they were followed for 8 years

the sweet spot seems to be 8900 steps a day

well looking at my step app it seems i have a little extra walking to do each day
since 
i would like to have my cognitive decline to slow down
and
my brain size to not shrink as much

i get regular every 6 months memory testing and regular mris or pet scans on the brain
so 
i can just do my own research study of one

remember whats good for the heart is good for the brain
we all know exercise is good for the heart
so
as you are working out or exercising remember you are also helping the brain


i am awaiting the results of my mri of the brain from a week ago
so far i have noticed no side effects
if its ok then in 3 weeks i will get my next infusion of aduhelm at the 10 mg dose

keep on stepping
