IT FELT LIKE I WAS I TEXAS AGAIN
when we lived at the country n in central texas sometimes on a nice sunny day just out of the blue a thunderstorm would roll it
commonly when that happened we would sit on our second story porch in our two porch chairs that faced the south
we could see the storm acoming
the wind would blow
the clouds would get darker and darker
the temp would start to drop
a crispness would occur in the air
you could breath it in and smell it
then
since we had a metal roof on our house and porch
you could hear the light rain hit that metal roof
then
the heavier rain would come
then
sometimes hail would hit
that my friends on a metal roof would get real loud
enough that you couldnt hear a conversation
then
the lightning would hit
if at night or at dusk the lightning could be seen off in the distance
you could watch it as it got closer and closer
now where we lived we were surrounded by ranches
our nearest neighbor being a half mile away
so
we could see the storm and the lightning and the rain as it headed towards us
if the lightning and rain and wind didnt get too bad
you could ride the whole storm out sitting on that upper deck
it was like meditating when this all happened
now we live here in santa barbara in a condo
we get about 1/3 of the rain that the country n did
we have lived here now 4 years and have had one storm since we lived here
it hasnt rained here in about 8 months
heck a light rain sort of just disappears into the ground
although you wouldnt know its dry here by how green the city looks
as in that picture above from our patio porch
as i sat down to watch the evening news i noticed it was starting to cloud up more and it seemed to get darker
then i thought i heard thunder
nah
thats not thunder
so
out to our deck i went
the light rain started hitting our metal roof over the deck
stirring those memories of central texas on our upper deck during thunderstorms
then
i saw this rainbow in the distance
then
the lightning got more frequent as did the thunder
then
the sky got that eerie look like it does in texas as the storm or tornado moves in
then
came that crisp smell of a storm that you could feel it as it came in through your nose down into your lungs
like a high you must get from that ozone the lighting produces as it reaches your lungs and oxygenates your body
i presume thats what triggers all the meditation feeling you get
so
i sat out on our upper deck for a long long time
just sitting daydreaming watching the storm move through
bringing back memories of those days in texas sitting up on that upper deck
i felt rejuvenated after the storm moved through
much like the garden veggies look after they are exposed to these storms
