SIDE EFFECTS AND AUTOMATIC RENEWALS
since i retired 10 years ago and got started on aricept (donepezil) for my mci due to alzheimers disease i have gradually had more meds added to my regimen
cholesterol meds blood pressure meds acid reflux meds steroid eye drops for iritis and now i have another med added to help my stomach work better to digest my foods
i use a well known pharmacy since its a few blogs away and i can just walk up there to get my meds
and other things i might need at the pharmacy
so i signed up online for auto renewal
at first it worked well so that once every 3 months i would go once to get all my meds
that did well until i got sick
i had gone off all my meds and when i restarted them they were all restarted differently
then my blood pressure dropped low when i was sick then later it went too high
my blood pressure meds were increased then decreased then eventually stopped
this required different doses of meds
then they started me on a new med for my stomach to increase my appetite and to make the stomach work better
it made me feel like i was smoking weed all day long so it was stopped
then they put me on a new one that did the same thing but it was tapered down to a lower dose and seems to work better
my appetite and my weight have improved
now though my auto renewal is all messed up
the problem is stopping it from happening
i walked in and talked to the pharmacist
i called and talked to the pharmacist
i went on line and canceled all my auto renewal refills
alas
none of this works so they just fill them and hold them for 6 days then put them back on the shelf
all those meds im not taking anymore
so now when i need my meds i go online and request a refill
i told my wife she i am glad i am a doctor and understand my meds and how they work and what the side effects are
im afraid i would probably be overdosed by now
i thought about it a lot recently as my meds are getting adjusted
i wonder how many folks have been made ill by taking meds wrong and taking meds that were discontinued
then all those side effects
first let me say i apologize for not recognizing how these side effects affect folks lives
i think you really dont know until you have to take them yourself like i did
thats when i learned a lot about the meds i was taking
the aricept (donepezil) has a lot of side effects that are worse the first month you take it then they get better over time
thats what happened to me since now i have minimal symptoms
had i not known i probably would have quit it the first month
the first stomach pill that made me feel like i was on weed was first given to me at a high dose but i knew it would be too much and asked for a lower one
even then it turned out to be too high
the next stomach pill which seems now to work i myself cut in half and took it at the half dose
the full dose made me feel stoned the half dose does not
i thought about older folks getting put on these meds and just keep on taking them
my guess is that things dont turn out well for them
then my blood pressure slowly dropped as i have lost weight
as i lost weight i had to slowly drop the dose down as i followed my blood pressure
this i did with the knowledge of my primary care doctor
but i wonder what would have happened had i not known all of this
so
now i take only four regular prescription meds one of those an eye drop
i refill them by ordering them on line when i need them
no auto renewal refills for me now
i understand the side effects of the meds that i take
im not sure what you folks do that are not medical people
i wonder how many of yall have got harmed by these drugs side effects
