ALZHEIMERS NEWS-BAN2401 STUDY TO TREAT PREALZHEIMERS DISEASE
mr hudson update
as of two hours ago he has not ran fever since noon yesterday
he has been off acetaminophen or tylenol since then
thats a good sign finally
he had a ct scan that was normal
the kidney is still working good
his blood pressure is better
he is now on antiinfective drugs ie antibiotics antifungals and antivirals
so far a source of the fever has not been found
heres hoping
biogen makes the aducanumab antibody that i took in the biogen aducanumab study and am hoping to restart eventually
it removes amyloid from the brain
some tau protein gets removed
they have applied for fda approval for its use in mild cognitive impairment due to alzheimers and in early alzheimers
biogen has a newer antibody that they are doing studies on
here is a description of the drug from alzheimers news today
BAN2401 is an antibody designed to bind to a soluble, toxic version of beta-amyloid. It is hoped that this binding can neutralize beta-amyloid and help “tag” it, so the immune system can clear it from the brain before it clumps and forms plaques.
prealzheimers is that state where you are accumulating amyloid in your brain but its not bad enough yet to cause symptoms
so
your amyvid pet scan for amyloid will be abnormal
but
your memory tests will be normal
the phase after that will be mild cognitive impairment then next will be early alzheimers
this study called the ahead 3-45 is looking for folks who are prealzheimers and are between 55-80
here is the link to the clinical trials.gov page on the biogen ahead 3-45 study criteria
the ahead 3 will be done on folks with early prealzheimers ie normal memory but intermediate levels of amyloid on amyvid pet scans
the ahead 45 will be done on folks with prealzheimers ie normal memory but with a heavier load of amyloid on their amyvid pet scans
eg thats where i would have been in my mid 50s
they also will be checking the tau protein levels in the ahead 45 portion of the study
both studies will go for 216 weeks
i dont qualify but you might
they are now recruiting folks for the study
after the initial introductory infusions every two weeks study subjects will do monthly iv infusions for 216 weeks
the goal is if this drug works is that it will remove the amyloid and by doing so one will not get alzheimers or the symptoms will be decreased significantly
ie it will either slow it down or stop it
eg my drug aducanumab seems to slow it down some
maybe if we are lucky this one will do even better
the study will be done in sites across the us
so far i dont see a listing but they are usually at major medical centers that do alzheimers research
like here in california like ucla usc ucsd ucsf uci
eventually testing sites will be listed on the link above and here
this drug is already being studied like the one i am on in folks with mild cognitive impairment or early azheimers disease
it could be if ban2401 works better it will be used instead of aducanumab
heres crossing our fingers that this drug will show some benefit as we get closer to finding a treatment that may help or hopefully one day provide a cure
