ALZHEIMERS NEWS-IT WORKS FOR ME
this research article published this month reinforces what i have been doing the last 9 years
i know i have gotten better based on my memory tests
i feel like its a combination of all i am doing all added up
i have taken the time to read the article and compare what they are recommending in their comprehensive study and realize that i have over the last 9 years done or are doing most of what they are recommending
a reviewer in being patient news said about this article
for the first time they have clinical evidence that a series of lifestyle changes and medical interventions can slow cognitive decline from Alzheimer’s or other neurodegenerative diseases.
here is the review of the article
here is the orignial article warning there is a lot of information in this research article
basically what the researchers did was take 150 folks and followed them for 18 months
many of those with mci or mild cognitive impairment got better
these folks were given precision medicines
what that means was they did a good medical and physical exam did labs did scans did memory testing
then
based on what was found
designed a program for them
eg low b12 got b12 low thyroid got thyroid meds poor diets were recommended specific diets most likely a version of the mind diet sleep issues were corrected bad habits adjusted etc
this seems to closely mimic what dr bredesen did in his reversal of cognitive decline study where he did something similar
he now is doing it on a bigger scale
like what he found
these researchers found that folks memory got better
so
it was with me
in fact
if you line up my memory test scores like my moca tests in a row you can see they were low at the beginning then over time dropped more then eventually started to return to normal and have remained there for some time
thats what dr bredesen found and what these researchers found
for me
you add the aricept (donepezil) to the regimen
it slows symptoms
granted it interferes with my sleep
and
then
lucky me
you add the fact that i got at least 7 months of the real aducanumab and hopefully will get to restart it next spring for longer use
this aducanumab has been shown to slow down the disease some
they hope to file for fda approval next year
i always thought that all of what i am doing has been the reason i am doing well today
as i will say though tomorrow as i speak for a few minutes at our walk to end alzheimers here in santa barbara
yes i will be the blue flower guy again representing those with the diagnosis
i am doing ok for now but i know that this disease wins out in the end
let me remind you there are two reasons we have not found a treatment or cure
first
we need more research money
second
we desperately need research volunteers
we need your help
thank you
