yesterday as my wife she and i sat out on our front condo porch overlooking our condo courtyard
i said you know this is whether weather
whether weather
well
its whether i should feel guilty living in such nice weather while many of our family and friends are suffering in the oppressive heat that is hoovering over them in austin and the south
we looked at each other
nope
we dont feel guilty at all
but
we are sympathetic
now when we first moved here in june two years ago it felt at times like texas as we bumped up to and over the 100 degree mark
remember most folks here dont have air conditioning
including us
but it seems when it gets warm like that it comes then its gone in a day or two
while in austin and the south it can stay around for weeks
i remember 100 days of 100 degree temps one summer that just about roasted the area
now
here this summer its been as the local say like it use to be here
70s in the day time 60s at night
i would say almost perfect weather
now we tolerate the warm days like when it gets into the 90s since we know they will be far and in between those warm days
so
we just deal with it
yesterday as i walked past a mirror
i glanced over and looked
oh my
you look like a local
flip flops
baggy pants
sunglasses
short sleeve shirt
yes
thats my attire pretty much 24/7 most of the year
now there are weeks in the winter when i switch to jeans and long sleeves
but
sometimes by the end of the day ive switched back to my local dressing of shorts and flip flops
i have a if you dont wear it its gone approach to my closet
i must say it has thinned down a lot
it is mostly short sleeve slip over shirts and shorts
i notice i rarely wear socks anymore unless i am working in the garden wearing my work boots
sometimes even then i am sockless
so
i dont feel guilty living here
i do feel bad for those who are suffering from the heat
but
i figured i paid my dues having lived there for most of my life
its time now in retirement to enjoy our climate here
so
