ALZHEIMERS NEWS-THIS IS THE REAL STUFF
i wrote this blog to ms b in february 2017
dear ms b-todays it
it was about me getting the aducanumab
i reread it
i recried
heres hoping now ms b when you look over at my easy chair when you are able to read that blog i wrote to you that you can see me sitting in that chair and it wont be empty
then for my birthday in march 2017
i got this phone call described in this blog
its my day
it was the best birthday present ever
the best birthday ever
then 1 week after receiving my first aducanumab infusion i write about having side effects and what that means in this blog
update and more
these symptoms are the symptoms folks have from taking the aducanumab
especially those like me who have the apoe 4 gene known as the late onset alzheimers gene
now
yesterday
after having 18 treatments of either placebo or aducanumab
we made the 2 hour drive down to ucla to start the second leg of the study
i for sure got the aducanumab
if i was on placebo i will have got the low or high dose aducanumab yesterday
if i was on aducanumab i will continue the same dose in this second phase
for at least 2 years with the possibility of taking it longer if the study is extended again
we were up early and left in the dark around 530 am
it rarely rains here
it sprinkled rain off and on all the way down the 101 to the 405
interesting
the traffic wasnt heavy
maybe thats a sign huh
then
there were these beautiful clouds up against the mountains in the distance
the sun would come out and go away
making this beautiful coloration of the clouds
must have been another sign
almost heavenly looking in its appearance
was i nervous
was i anxious
no
im so ready for this part to start
since
i know these next 2 years are important to my long term survival
if
this stuff does what it is suppose to do
which is
clear out all the amyloid from the brain so the disease that is being continuously fed by more and more amyloid being deposited may be slowed
will it be enough
im hoping so
ill accept just some slowing of the process
like a dam slowing down a river
maybe it will gain me some time
ill take all the time it gives me
then
i met the doctor again
got a memory test
one i have had before and have administered myself to folks
so
i know how well i did on it
i got most if not all of them correct
my score im sure is back up in the normal range
is that the drug
or
my healthy living
or
is it fate
i dont care which one it is
ill take it
then
the nurse hung this dark colored bag of iv fluid
as he turned it on
today for some reason
i could feel a coldness run up my arm into my shoulder
eventually it all got up to my brain
doing its thing
doing its job
well i hope
then
after an hour it was done
out the iv came
i had to just sit there for awhile
almost meditating like
absorbing all that this may mean
this is my purple wrap over the iv site
a color i requested today
a symbol the alzheimers color
then
on my wrist is my name bracelet
i have decided to keep that white bracelet on as long as it will last
as
a reminder to me how important this day is
yep
i got for sure the real stuff today and im happy
also
im really really hoping that no side effects like headache occurs
if it does that probably means this was my first real meds
if i dont get a headache then there is a good chance that this was my 19th dose
either way
im happy today
