REPEATING PICTURES
i get notifications from google when someone references
my blog
especially if they reference or use my pictures that ive posted
on my blog
one set of pictures that are frequently reoccurring postings
are the ones of my keyhole gardens
now keyhole gardens were developed for hot dry areas
for poor farmers in countries like africa
where they use what they have to make these
keyhole gardens
here is an example of one from africa
they work because they use 3 ft of soil
have a central composter to put compostable materials
and
where water can be poured
which waters the garden
many areas with restricted water use will reuse wash water
bath water etc to pour down the central composter
thus growing crops for consumption
now here at the country n
i have built two of these
using what i had available
the largest is an old large water trough roughly 3 ft high
that had rusted out its bottom
filled it with good hill country soil
each season i add compost to it
put in a central composter
left a wedge or keyhole so i could step into it
to access the plants
i water the central area
i have grown several seasons of crops
the picture above is my potatoes i planted one year
this year i have all my peppers planted there
they are about to explode now that cool weather is here
now here is one i did in my garden
cut the bottom out of an old water trough
dug the hole so i have 3 ft of soil
put in a central composter
this plant agrowing now popped up on its own
growing from my central composter
its either a cucumber a pumpkin or a vine squash
time will tell
then
a friend named jim
inspired by my blog
took what he had
and
built this beautiful keyhole garden
now these three keyhole gardens
are frequently found referenced on pininterest
and
several garden blogs
on keyhole gardens
so
try it yourself
its almost fool proof
