DEATH AND DYING
both of these are inevitable
the other thing that fits this category is
taxes
i do think about this a lot
especially when i think about how my mom and
my younger brother died
with their struggle with alzheimers disease
my dad avoided this painful death by having a
heart attack and dying eventually from that event
no slow downward slope for him
one thing he did that i always appreciated
as well as i think all my siblings
was that he completely planned his funeral
he as a preacher attended lots of funerals
and
he knew exactly how his was to be done
and
he wrote it all down in his own handwriting
for each of his kids to have
years before he died
we all knew what he wanted and when the time
came
we honored those wishes
my rainwater brother who is also a certified financial
planner
gave me a book to look at
its a workbook on getting everything ready
for when you are not around anymore
ok for when you are dead
in that book is a section on planning your funeral
many times death comes unexpected
and
the family is not ready to deal with what needs to be done
they are vulnerable to
being taken advantage of
and
having bad feelings develop amongst the relatives
this book and eg my dads written funeral instructions
avoids all of this
heck he had even picked out his own casket
he picked an economical one
so the family wouldnt be pressured to buy a more
expensive one
he had buried a lot of people in all kind of materials
many in pine boxes
in his younger days he usually had to help the
funeral director some
so he knew what to expect
and
wanted to spare us all extra grief
and
he wanted it done the way he would have done it
so ive thought about dying and getting my final
exit
using what he did and what this book suggests
no
its not written down yet
but its up in my head
how i want mine to be done
if you want to know whats in my plan
well
you will just have to come to my funeral
i only get one chance to get this right
