COUNTRY N NEWS-PRODUCE TIME
ive written about our sink peaches before
some years we get hardly any
some years we get a lot
well this year we have gotten more than we ever had
before
why
one is all the rain
the other is this year i added my country n chicken compost
blend around each tree along with a good organic fertilzer
its that combo of rain and good compost
i think that made our bountiful harvest
our trees have been loaded to the ground with peaches
they are even bigger than in years past
last year we barely got 1 1/2 five gallon buckets
this year we got this 5 buckets plus 2 others
plus we gave our chickens 2 buckets plus of overripe ones
we have quite a bountiful harvest
we have filled our freezer full of peaches and have given
lots of them to friends
i see lots of peach fuzzes and peach cobblers in our future
then on to the plums
this year we have had so many we cant get them all picked
before they fall to the ground
now these trees i mostly neglect
just let nature do its thing
i would hate to see what would happened if i took
care of them like i do the peaches
this is a tatume squash i plant every year
when it gets smaller than this
i pick it
it runs in a vine like a cucumber
i plant it since its more resistant to the squash vine borer than
the zucchini or yellow squash
it looks like a zucchini
we use it like a zucchini in salads and cooked veggies
if you leave them on the vine they become larger
like a winter squash and can be stored
we dont ever let ours get that big
we got our first crop of large tomatoes
the large one is a tycoon a texas star one thats multidisease resistant
the other gnarly looking one is a cherokee purple
a heirloom that has great flavor
this is what it looks like on a sandwich
then this week
we took all the veggies we have harvested and put them in
a casserole dish and grilled them
potatoes onion tatume squash green onions green beans garlic
carrots egg plant
yum is what i said when i ate this
the next night
i cooked some organic rice with veggie broth
then used the left over veggies on top of the rice
for a flavorful nutritious meal
we like produce time
even though its a busy time for us
it makes all the work to get this stuff to grow worthwhile
