NOT GONNA GET TO
the other day i got a letter from the district court
as a physician you never wanted to get these things
as you never know whether you are being subpoenaed
to testify in some case or if you are getting sued
ive only testified once in court and that was in a pretrial
hearing for child abuse
luckily for me ive never been sued and probably am
now beyond the limits for getting sued
luckily i have lifetime malpractice coverage for when i
i was in practice
i slowly opened the letter and there was an invite to be
called for jury duty
i was only called for jury duty once and that was when
i lived in austin
when i got there that day i found out it was for the infamous
yogurt murder trial in austin
luckily for me i was moving to another county and was
disqualified
didnt want to do that one anyway as it went on for a long time
and it was not a good time for me to be missing days at
my medical practice
my wife she is on their radar
since she and i have lived here shes been called up several
times
the defendants are always obviously guilty
you wonder why they even went to trial
the last one the guy was guilty but the police lost all the
evidence so the judge had to let the guy off
so now that im retired i was excited about being called
for jury duty
always wanted to do that
then
reality set up
question are you on medications
yes aricept (donepezil)
why are you on that isnt that used for alzheimers
yes i have mild cognitive impairment amnestic type that may be due
to alzheimers
juror rejected
so the judge wants me to get a letter from my neurologist
as its unlikely that any defense attorney or prosecutor would allow
me on a jury
so i now get a lifetime ban from jury duty
its a part of our obligation as an american citizen that i know
i will never get to experience
at least i can experience it through my wife she
are they going to stop me from voting
or driving
i hope not
so yes this was a sobering experience for me

I got to serve on a Jury a few years back, in Georgetown - 2 week trial. It was very interesting - the guy who drove into the HEB in Georgetown.
